As part of the AIB Certification renewal requirement, you must take an online examination every 2-years based on foundational content and information derived from recent evidence-based research published after the date of your original certification workshop.  Certification renewal ensures that all AIB-certified clinicians remain up to date on the latest evidence-based management strategies. 


How does the Certification Renewal process work?

Once you purchase the certification renewal exam, 5-10 research articles will be placed in your AIB account along with the exam.  The exam format may include multiple-choice, true/false, and case-based questions. The exam is not timed to allow you the necessary time needed to review the research thoroughly. The exam must be submitted within the given timeframe of January 1 -March 31, of each year.

When is it time to renew?
AIB has established a new timeline for certification renewal. Certification renewal exams will be available during a 3-month window from January 1 – March 31 of each year. This means that your existing certification will be valid until the exam window closes on March 31 of your second year.

What does the certification renewal exam consist of?
The certification renewal exam is comprised of foundational content and information derived from research that has been published since the date of the original workshop. The exam format may include multiple-choice, true/false, and case-based questions. Prior to taking the certification renewal exam, participants will be provided with reading materials necessary to prepare for the exam.

What is a passing score to remain certified?
A passing score is 76% or better.

How many attempts am I allowed to pass the exam?
A total of three attempts are allowed. CEU earning is only applicable after successfully passing the certification renewal exam. The exam is written to pass if each article is read comprehensively before taking the exam.

What happens if I do not pass the exam on three (3) attempts?
If you do not pass the certification renewal exam after three (3) attempts, certification renewal will only be granted if you register and participate in the current certification workshop on the same topic. This serves as an opportunity to learn/review the material alongside AIB faculty more thoroughly.

Why did AIB change the certification renewal process?
AIB values course feedback from all participants and we strive to maintain high-quality workshops and a respective certification brand. As such, changes to the recertification process were implemented from your suggestions – and we listened!
