Description
This in-depth and specialized 6.25-hour self-paced online course is designed for rehabilitation and healthcare professionals who already possess foundational knowledge in vestibular and concussion management. Learners should have completed a foundational course, such as AIB’s Vestibular Rehabilitation and Concussion Management certification or an equivalent course to fully benefit from the material. This course does not cover basic vestibular or concussion pathophysiology, anatomy, or foundational assessment and management.
Overview
The course provides a detailed exploration of concussion trajectories, including cervical, vestibular, visual, cognitive, anxiety/mood, and post-traumatic headache presentations. Participants will learn to identify, assess, and manage the unique challenges within each trajectory, integrating evidence-based evaluation and rehabilitation strategies to optimize patient outcomes.
Through targeted modules, learners will refine clinical reasoning, expand their rehabilitation toolkit, and apply multi-system approaches to complex concussion cases. By the end of the course, participants will be equipped to perform precise evaluations, develop trajectory-specific treatment plans, and confidently manage patients with nuanced concussion presentations.
This specialized course is designed for rehabilitation and healthcare professionals who already have a foundational understanding of vestibular and concussion management. Learners should have completed a foundational course in vestibular rehabilitation and concussion management. Appropriate prerequisite courses include AIB’s Vestibular Rehabilitation and Concussion Management course or possess equivalent knowledge before enrolling.
In this course, the learner will gain a detailed understanding of concussion trajectories and treatment approaches in this focused, clinically rich course designed to enhance your skills and confidence. Ideal for physical therapists, occupational therapists, athletic trainers, audiologists, and therapy assistants, the course builds on foundational knowledge to deepen your clinical reasoning and refine your concussion management strategies.
Through a thorough exploration of concussion trajectories, you’ll learn to identify, assess, and manage the unique challenges each presentation may pose. The course emphasizes practical, evidence-based tools and strategies to guide treatment planning, optimize patient outcomes, and enhance clinical decision-making.

Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this online concussion course, participants will be able to:
- Analyze emerging concussion concepts including imaging, biomarkers, exertion protocols, chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE), and alternative treatments, to inform clinical decision-making.
- Assess and manages cervical trajectories, including whiplash-associated disorders, cervicogenic dizziness, headaches, temporomandibular involvement, and comprehensive cervical evaluation techniques.
- Perform targeted vestibular assessments for both peripheral (e.g., BPPV, labyrinthine concussion) and central vestibular disorders, including bedside and neurodiagnostic testing, and integrate evidence-based vestibular rehabilitation strategies.
- Evaluate and address anxiety and mood trajectories, including pre- and post-injury mood disorders, sleep disturbances, vestibular/ocular motor influences, and targeted clinical interventions.
- Identify and treat post-traumatic headaches, differentiate ICHD-3 classifications, cervicogenic, tension, and migraine headache patterns, and implement individualized treatment strategies.
- Recognize and manage cognitive fatigue, autonomic dysregulation, and exercise interventions to optimize recovery and functional outcomes.
- Evaluate visual system impairments following concussion, including functional vision, oculomotor control (smooth pursuit, saccades, vergence, optokinetic reflex, skew deviation), strabismus, and implement evidence-based interventions.
- Integrate multi-system trajectory management to develop individualized, clinically sound treatment plans that enhance recovery and functional performance in patients with complex concussion presentations.
